Printer users will be well aware of the frustrating error messages their devices throw up from time, whether it asks them to load more paper (even though there is paper present), causes a paper jam, or simply shuts down without warning.

But perhaps the most frustrating of all is the "low-ink" warning message. A contributor to the South Bend Tribune's regular tech column is not afraid to admit that this particular error message is driving her "crazy".

This message often chooses to appear when the user is in the process of doing something else too, further exacerbating the problem. Thankfully, all is not lost. The newspaper's expert, Kim Komando, advises that the solution can be found within a printer's monitoring software.

Kim suggests finding the icon for the software, opening it, and taking a look at the printer's program options. From here changes can be made to the ink alert notifications – meaning the annoying error message will plague users no longer.
