With printer manufacturers such as Epson and HP increasing the frequency of firmware updates, ensuring automatic updates are turned off is more important than ever.
Manufacturers will try to make money through the sale of the printer or through the sale of the cartridges. With purchase prices for the Epson XP-2205 printer sitting around £40 currently, Epson will be doing all they can to ensure owners are buying the OEM inks. One way to to do this is by routinely releasing Firmware Updates which can stop Compatible Inks from working.
You can, however, turn these automatic updates off, using the steps below:
On the Epson Software Updater:
- Ensure the Software Updater is Installed on your computer
- Select your printer model from the dropdown menu
- Click ‘Auto Update Settings‘
- On the ‘Interval to Check‘ menu, select ‘Never‘
- Click OK
