Canon Pixma MP490 printer reviewed

Individuals and families in the market for a new printer may be interested to hear that the team at techworld.com has given the Canon Pixma MP490 printer a fairly good review.
Having not expected a lot from the affordable piece of technology, the reviewer commends the printer for having some "thoughtfully designed features", including a small front swing-out door which protects the three media slots.
However it balances this out by insisting that there are other design elements which are less successful. For example the scanner lid is held in place by some connectors that are not firmly attached and the 100-sheet input tray has a weak support panel that falls off too easily.
In regards to performance tests the printer was hit and miss. It produced plain-text pages at a rate of 8.7 pages per minute (ppm) but graphics only came at around 2.3ppm - below average.
In the verdict on the product, the printer's reviewer Susan Silvius wrote: "The low price range of the Canon Pixma MP490 MFP means tradeoffs.
"The high printer ink costs are bearable if you print infrequently; otherwise, look for a model with lower-cost printer inks."
