Printer ink maker Canon has announced it is to increase its production capacity of products for inkjet printers. In a statement the firm said it plans to capitalise on the "steady growth" of the global inkjet printer market by developing a new production base in Thailand.

Land in the Nakhonratchasima province, to the northeast of the country, will house the new plant, part of the Canon Hi-Tech (Thailand) Ltd manufacturing subsidiary. The firm also said the expected increase in future demand for associated inkjet tools had led it to act on a "pressing need" to ramp up development.

The new development will join an already existing facility in Nakhonratchasima, with construction due to begin in January next year, which is set to move into operation that October. Canon said the plethora of available labour in the region, alongside the flow of parts, supplies and infrastructure between the two functioning sites, had proved attractive.

Canon Hi-Tech (Thailand) Ltd was created in 1990 as a subsidiary wing of the manufacturer.
