Printer ink firms Canon and Oce have announced they will join their print divisions together in Switzerland.

The merger follows the completion of Canon's acquisition of Oce, which was accepted in March 2010.

To facilitate the move, the companies have reached an agreement for Oce to sell 100 per cent of its Swiss department to Canon Europe for €15.9 million (£14 million).

The companies noted: "A combined operation in Switzerland is better placed to generate sales, taking into account the significant indirect business and fierce competition in the local market place. The combined Canon and Oce operation creates the largest printing presence in Switzerland."

Recently, the Canon imagePROGRAF iPF8300 device was awarded the accolade of Best Photographic Printer of the Year 2011 by the European Digital Press Association.

Yuichi Miyano, director of large format solutions at Canon Europe, said the company was delighted to win the honour for its device and will strive to provide the best quality document production for professional users.
