A new portable printer released by Epson could interest printer ink shoppers looking to transport their hardware with them.

Marine Goy, writing for Digital Versus, has claimed that the Epson Colorio E820 is a novel approach to printer design that could intrigue those who have to produce documents on the move.

She said that the device "looks like a cross between a BBC Micro and a microwave oven" but makes up for its retro appearance with functionality.

The device is compatible with both the Mac OS X and PC computers and is also able to accept documents through USB, xD and MS Pro without needing to be connected with a computer.

It comes with a handle, remote control and portable wireless keyboard allowing it to be transported easily and measures 23.5cm x 15.8cm x 19.2cm.

HP recently announced that it is launching a range of new printers and ink cartridges for customers in the run up to Christmas.
