Epson has revealed that its latest range of printers are capable of connecting to an Amazon Kindle Fire HD or Kindle Fire HDX, after announcing support for the devices.

The compatibility with the Epson Connect printers is partly down to Android 4.4 KitKat, which has native printing support built-in, and is what enables the Google Nexus 5 to automatically detect HP printers and download the software to make them work, allowing people to print directly from Google Docs.

In order to ensure that owners of new Epson Connect printers are able to print off documents, they will need to ensure their Kindle Fire and Kindle Fire HDX have the free Fire OS 3.1 software update.

Ian Cameron, general manager of sales and marketing support at Epson, commented: "Collaboration and innovation are an important part of Epson's strategy to drive home and business productivity via powerful mobile printing solutions across a range of devices and platforms."
