Although having no standout features such as especially cheap replacement printer ink costs, the HP Officejet 4500 all-in-one device does not leave a user short in terms of what is needed from a home office printer.

David Stone has written for PC Magazine that the machine is a more than capable multi-function printer and has the ability to work as a standalone photocopier or fax machine.

He added that the quality of the text in print outs is suitable for the majority of business users, while its graphics are on par with other inkjet printers.

Mr Stone also explained that the colours were "suitably vibrant" when printing in a high-quality mode.

He also suggested: "Note that if you use full-page graphics, you may need to use a heavy weight paper. In my tests, the ink tended to add a curl to the plain paper we use for testing."

Earlier this year HP reached a settlement agreement in a dispute relating to patented ink cartridges with the Hong Kong-based company Print-Rite Holdings Ltd.
