Hewlett Packard Appoints New CEO
Printer ink maker HP has appointed a new president and chief executive officer. Leo Apotheker, previously chief executive officer of global software firm SAP, will also join HP's board of directors when he takes up his role on November 1st.
Mr Apotheker spent over 20 years at SAP, overseeing some of the organisation's key products and managing significant changes. Under his leadership, SAP's technology platform expanded, with the firm posting 18 consecutive fiscal quarters of double-digit growth between 2004 and 2009.
"Leo is a strategic thinker with a passion for technology, wide-reaching global experience and proven operational discipline - exactly what we were looking for in a chief executive officer," said Robert Ryan, lead independent director of HP's board.
"After more than two decades in the industry, he has a strong track record of driving technological innovation, building customer relationships and developing world-class teams," he added. Ray Lane, a managing partner at venture capital house Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, will also join HP as non-executive chairman.
