UK mid-cap businesses that may use ink and toner cartridges are looking forward to a successful new year, a survey has found.

The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills' report – 'Results from the 2010 Finance Survey of Mid-Cap Businesses' – reveals that 58 per cent of mid-caps are expecting an increase in turnover in 2011, with 93 per cent of those looking for finance managing to obtain it, an improvement on 2009's figure of 82 per cent.

Despite making up just 0.5 per cent of enterprises in the UK, mid-cap firms make an important contribution to UK employment, covering 21 per cent of jobs and generating almost 20 per cent of total turnover.

"Mid-caps are an essential aspect of our economy, employing over a fifth of our workforce and helping boost growth," minister for business and enterprise Mark Prisk said.

"It is pleasing to see they are recovering well from the recession and are facing fewer problems with access to finance," he added.
