Ink Giant HP To Include Search Functions In Printers
Ink giant Hewlett Packard (HP) has announced plans to take printer technology to the next level by incorporating search technology into a series of printers and computers.
According to the Financial Times, the models will be embedded with software from Autonomy, which will bring the group into much more direct competition with companies such as Microsoft and Google.
The technology could become available to consumers later on this year with HP's Mike Lynch, saying how much freedom the company now has to experiment.
Mr Lynch, who sold Autonomy to HP and now runs its information management business, is quoted as saying: "What we have done with people from HP is give them assets and technology to do things with.
"We have the luxury of very high margins that allow them to be experimental. I think they are enjoying that."
In the future, Autonomy could offer HP additional tools in the field of mobile phone software and services.
