Ink specialist HP could be facing long-term trouble when it comes to its sales, one expert has warned.

Speaking to Mercury News, Federico De Silva, a principal analyst at the Gartner market research firm, explained that there has been a shift in consumer spending, leading to more people buying mobile devices and tablets.

"They are in trouble over the long term. It's a big business, to be sure, but it's not growing. It's in a slow decline and we don't see it coming back," Mr Da Silva told the news provider.

Due to the rise in smartphones and tablets, vast amounts of information can be easily accessed, which is causing many companies and consumers to print less.

Despite the challenging market, HP will be hoping its Hotspot LaserJet Pro M1218nfs MFP will be a success.

Nitin Hiranandani, director of printing at HP India, praised the machine, noting that it "completely redefines" the role of a MFP.
