HP has confirmed that its Latex and A50 Inkjet Web Press ink cartridges are the first water-based inks to pick up the Sustainable Product Certification from UL Environment.

This certification shows that these products have met a range of stringent criteria related to human health and environmental considerations.

Sara Greenstein, president of UL Environment, said: "We applaud HP for pursuing and becoming the industry’s first printer manufacturer to achieve certification under the UL 2801 standard.

"For every step a company takes toward greening its products and processes, the marketplace advances its overall sustainability practices."

Christopher Morgan, senior vice president of graphics solutions business at HP, said that the ink cartridges will help customers gain a "competitive edge".

News of this certification comes after Ameinfo.com reported that HP will exhibit a number of products and services at the Gitex 2012 event.

Those who visit the company's stand will be able to choose from a range of consumer and commercial products.
