Working from home can be more beneficial to employees than receiving a pay rise, according to researchers.

Experts from the University of Illinois revealed that getting a boost in wages only results in a short-term satisfaction before the sum is then compared to other members of the team.

However, setting up a home office with a PC and printer and working flexibly could well be more positive, particularly for those who want a better work/life balance.

"In a time when the boundaries between work, life and family are so blurred with the increased use of technology that allows many employees to work everywhere, anytime, I think employers should consider offering flexible work arrangements to employees who can perform their work off-site and off-schedule," said professor Amit Kramer.

With improvements in technology and mobile devices like tablets and smartphones, staff are able to work from home and access data or print files from anywhere they have an internet connection.
