The Brother P-Touch 2100 portable label printer is capable of printing 100mm tapes for 18p each, based on the price of the ink cartridge included.

That is according to TrustedReviews.com, which claimed that the portable device is unique in that it can print independently of a PC.

Featuring an LCD display and a full QWERTY keyboard, the Brother P-Touch 2100 is able to produce a range of labels including text and symbols while on the move and can be powered by mains or battery.

"The only physical installation necessary is to clip the tape cartridge into place under the top cover of the P-Touch 2100, which swings up and back," the website said in its review.

"To use the printer standalone, type the characters you want and they appear in the bottom line of the LCD display."

TrustedReviews.com added that printing is carried out using a 180dpi thermal printhead that heats the labels and produces a jet black finish.

Recently, IT Pro explained that the new Brother MFC-6890CDW is able to provide small businesses with a cheap A3 printing option by utilising ink cartridges instead of toner.
