Ricoh releases gel-based printer ink

Ricoh Americas Corporation has released details of an innovative new brand of printer ink that it has developed, which it hopes will provide a high quality and affordable alternative to laser printing.

The Ricoh Aficio GX e5550N printer is the latest instalment in its GelSprinter line of colour ink cartridge printers, which uses a viscous gel ink formula to attempt to achieve better performance in dry environments.

Its fast drying, waterproof properties mean that the improved printer ink can help businesses to meet the realisation of published yields while eliminating smudging, bleed-through and page curling.

In a statement on the product, Matt Sakauchi, vice president of the office printer business group at Ricoh, said: "Most businesses rely on laser printers to handle a lot of their document output needs.

"The GX e5550N with GelSprinter technology offers the speed and versatility of a laser printer in an affordable and reliable inkjet printing solution that not only produces outstanding colour documents, but further demonstrates Ricoh's commitment to helping our customers become more environmentally-friendly."
