Printer ink maker Lexmark has announced details of its impressive web-connected, all-in-one (AIO) Lexmark Genesis printer, designed for professionals, small business and home office customers. Genesis will build on Lexmark's portfolio of inkjet AIOs dedicated to offering printing capabilities for wireless and web-based workplaces, the firm said in a statement.

Features and functions include web access, via the Lexmark Genesis's 4.3 inch colour touch screen, to Lexmark's Twitter and Facebook SmartSolutions applications. These enable users to log on to the social networking sites and, for example, scroll through Twitter feeds, view Facebook walls and print out photos direct from the device.

Other SmartSolutions include cloud-based apps for Stamps.com, Evernote, Box.net and TripIt. The Lexmark Genesis also offers the company's Vizix print tool, which uses separate ink cartridges to give greater speed, and a high-quality standard of documents.

"From its unique, sleek upright design to the broad range of SmartSolutions, the Lexmark Genesis is truly an innovative, one-of-a-kind product in today's AIO market," said Paul Rooke, Lexmark executive vice-president and president of its imaging solutions division.

Earlier this month Lexmark launched a range of 12 new colour workgroup printers.
