Multi-function printers are now common features in homes and businesses but identifying the right product for saving printer ink or producing superior quality images can be a daunting exercise.

However, PC magazine has come up with a few tips on how to go about this task, suggesting that people should start by making a list of the functions and features they actually need.

Consumers should also have in mind what they want to use their all-in-ones printers for as the machines are suited for different functions, ranging from home photo production to business document printing.

"If you never print in colour, there's no reason to spend money on colour," states the magazine, which adds size also needs to be taken into consideration as all-in-ones tend to be bigger than single-function printers.

Connectivity should not be forgotten and consumers can choose a printer with a USB port, although many include Ethernet and WiFi connections for easy sharing of documents.

There is a wide range of products to choose from, but with environmental awareness increasing, it may be wise to settle for one that will minimise the need to replace printer ink cartridges.
