Buying printer ink cartridges can sometimes be expensive, but by following a few simple tips printer users can cut down on excessive printer use and save a few pennies along the way, it has been suggested.

Writing on the Sync Blog, technology expert Marc Saltzman has offered a few easy, everyday tips that can be put quickly into practice. Mr Saltzman advises sticking with brand name printer ink. It may cost a little more than unknown brands, but it will serve users better in the long run. A common problem with cheaper ink, for example, is that it can sometimes dry straight onto a printer's head, which could obviously cause some problems.

Think about selective printing – do you really need to print it? Maybe it could just stay on your computer. Be selective, the writer says. Finally, use "print preview". This will help because, as the writer notes, a user can then "catch mistakes before wasting ink".

It was recently reported that the Xerox 7400 Color Laser Printer can print up to 15,000 pages in monochrome from a single toner cartridge, offering a longer lasting printer cartridge.
