Writing in the New York Daily News, Stephanie Berenbaum, the co-founder of Fabulous & Frugal, has included some advice on printer ink in her Six Tips to Help You Cut Home Office Costs For Good feature.
Her website, billed as a "girl's guide to living well and spending wisely" provides the ethos of her article but she also called upon gadget guru Gregg Steiner for some extra help on the matter of home office expenditure.
She recommends limiting home printing to black and white printing and essential colour prints and using outside services for printing out colour photos on high-quality photo paper.
"It was news to me that laser printer ink cartridges last ten times longer than ink jet cartridges. So for all you writers and document mongers out there who print black-and-white in mass quantity, he suggests switching to laser and watching the savings add up!"
Laser printers use toner cartridges that although long-lasting, can take up to 450 years to decompose, while ink cartridges, although less economical are easier to recycle.
