Xerox has come out on top of the multifunction printer category in the CRN Annual Report Card analysis.

The assessments aim to highlight the best tools in a number of sectors, with services judged against the criteria of product innovation, support and partnership.

Xerox finished in first place in the category for the second year in succession, triumphing over industry rivals Lexmark and Samsung, while HP fell into fourth position.

Tom Gall, director of channel marketing at Xerox, told that the company's solid-ink multifunction printers are a "solid upgrade in reliability and usability", adding praise for their functions that include "scan-to-email".

Mr Gall explained that Xerox printers can measure the amount of ink used and charge accordingly, altering the cost structure for resellers.

As well as offering new hardware, Xerox recently released its Digital Colour Impressions paper collection at Graph Expo.

Over more than 40 types of finish are available, differing in weight, size and design, with gloss and satin two of the styles on offer.
