Xerox is set to release a patch to rectify a fault discovered with some of its Xerox Workforce multifunction printers (MFPs).

It was found that the system’s scanner can randomly alter written numbers in any pages, which could lead to invoices to be sent out with incorrect financial numbers or account information.

Rick Dastin, corporate VP at the Office and Solutions Business Group at Xerox, wrote a recent blog to apologise for the issue.

“There have been reports regarding errors with the scanning function of some of our office devices in which characters can potentially be substituted for others. This does not impact standard printing, copying and traditional fax functions. In fact, the vast majority of our customers will not experience any issues,” Mr Dastin explained.

He advised consumers to reset their scanning defaults and apply the software patch, which is currently in development and aims to resolve the issue.
