Your Reviews For The R800 So Far
Epson R800 Photo Brilliant performance and unmatched photo quality however, won’t print envelopes with Word 2007 under Vista despite all latest drivers and much help from Epson Europe - there again, as Epson pointed out; it is a Photo printer not office!!
Dear Sir Re; R800 Printer Firstly, I am extremely pleased with my Epson R800 Photo Printer purchased about a year ago, the quality of photos are excellent. I am a member of our local Camera Club and submit prints each month in local and inter-county print competitions. These are judged by prominent judges (with letters after their names) so therefore entries are heavily scrutinised. I have been using your inks for some while and so far my prints have not been criticised for not using genuine Epson inks, so I can only conclude that the quality of your inks are up to judgement standard.
I do have a small problem that now the club is more or less digital photography projected images, the number of prints that I submit has reduced in number, therefore, the printer is not used as much and is prone to clogging. Do the inks I purchase have a shelf life even if they are unopened, also, how long can they be left in the printer without being used? I have ordered from yourselves the cleaning unit in hope it will help my situation, but would be grateful for any further comment you may have. I look forward to hearing from you soon. J. Wraight
Dear Friends, whilst the above, linked to my home computer, has performed perfectly well in normal printing tasks, it has failed miserably on photographic work due to the Epson driver being repeatedly disrupted by the Windows XP automatic updating procedures. In order to ensure good results it would be necessary to load up an appropriate driver every time you use the computer in case an update has corrupted the previous driver settings.
For that reason I have wasted ink and photographic paper in significant quantities since purchasing the printer and now only use it for basic printing tasks which a printer costing one third the price could easily perform. Epson have not been able to offer a solution to this problem. Hope this is of some interest to you. Kind regards, David
Having had my R800 since June 2004, and I feel that I am just about qualified to write a review on it. It was purchased, after considerable research, as my forte was in, what used to be called: ‘Desktop Publishing.’ I have produced and printed countless newsletters, booklets, brochures, adverts, greeting cards and digital images mainly is full colour, all without any problems. I switched to compatible cartridges within 8 months of purchasing the printer as the cost of the originals was prohibitive.
This was not without its problems, as there are compatibles and there are compatibles… I believe during the past 6 years suppliers have improved and most of the dodgy ones have fallen by the wayside.
In 2005 when I started printing digital images; right up to borderless A4, people could not believe that they had not been professionally printed. Colour printers have improved somewhat since then, but most people will still wonder at the quality from the R800
I would estimate that since I have owned the R800 it has been used, on average, 4 days a week, every week. There have never been any problems with its performance. It has never let me down in any way.
I have found the cost of compatible cartridges good and the quantity and quality of output has been more than acceptable. It does of course depend on what you print with your R800, but I have found that the cartridges are not used evenly. Every now and again I have to purchase extra cartridges of particular colours; Cyan and Yellow are the main heavy usage ones in what I produce.
I would recommend the R800 to anyone who intends using it for good colour reproduction of images. However ensure that you are using good compatible cartridges and very good quality photo paper. Regards, Robert Hedge
